River Cottage - Accommodation in the Monaro Hinterland

“The views from the property were breathtaking and
the locals in Delegate were friendly and helpful.”

I stayed at River Cottage on a visit from the UK in September 2010. The house itself was delightful - clean, comfortable and homely – with quirky decoration, a wood burning stove in the living room and a surprisingly extensive library of books and board games.

The views from the property were breathtaking and the locals in Delegate were friendly and helpful. It’s a great spot for a run to the coast or nearby towns and we were thrilled to spot a platypus at the local platypus reserve – a magical experience and apparently quite common in this area.

We felt the price was excellent value for money, we’ll definitely book there again on our next visit to the area. I would thoroughly recommend a stay at River Cottage – 10 out of 10.

Just wanted to say how much we’ll miss Delegate and River Cottage now we’re heading back home to Sydney. I didn’t realise how much a real country town would slow us all down. It’s such a different experience from tourist towns.

We thought we’d be using it as a base to visit different places every day. But after a trip to Merimbula on the coast and another across the border to Gippsland, we ended up being very happy staying put and having a daily wander along the Platypus Walk and getting to know the locals – who were all very friendly, by the way. Part of this had to be the comfy, family feel of River Cottage. It’s a very easy place to lounge around inside and outside.

The kids had a great time experiencing real country living. They even caught their first fish. Once again, thanks for a great holiday.
