River Cottage sits on a hill above a stream that shares its waters with platypus and trout overlooking the tiny town of Delegate just a five minute stroll away.
Easily accessible by car River Cottage is almost exactly halfway between Sydney and Melbourne just on the NSW side of the border about 35 kilometres west of Bombala.
It takes about as long to drive from Sydney and Canberra as it takes to get to the NSW snowfields. Once out of the city there are few traffic lights between you and the perfect escape.
Delegate sits in the gently-rolling hills of the Monaro High Plains with the white-shining peaks of the Snowy Mountains to the northwest and the unspoiled beaches of the Sapphire Coast to the east.
Some of the best bushwalking in the state can be found in the nearby national parks that fall dramatically away from the high plains to the rolling pastureland of the far south coast.
Wildlife is abundant with arguably the most reliable platypus spotting in Australia not only at the Bombala Platypus Reserve but also in the streams of the Platypus Walk just five minutes from River Cottage.
The nearby Candelo Markets held on the first Sunday of every month in historic Candelo are the largest in south-eastern NSW and not to be missed.
